Me and my sister both loooove detective stories - actually addicted to them. We love watching detectives in action, but we're not that into reading them. Well, I never really read any detective stories so I can't know if I like them or not. But maybe one of these days, I'll finally be able to read Sherlock Holmes and other detective stories. ;)Chelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09113611207753873326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133568317365346510.post-66909611587035077372012-08-28T16:53:19.702-07:002012-08-28T16:53:19.702-07:00Yes . . . being a big fan of the BBC version, I...Yes . . . being a big fan of the BBC version, I'm skeptical about how the Americans are going to interpret the characters. However I have read all of Laurie R. King's Sherlock Holmes/Mary Russell books and highly recommend them. Especially the first two: Beekeeper's Apprentice and Monstrous Regiment of Women. (Sort of a two-parter in some ways.)

I don't care for procedural mysteries much, no matter how well written, I'm afraid. I need to care about the characters and Doyle doesn't make me care about Holmes or Watson very much. King makes me care a lot.

Might look into these -- I've enjoyed your recommendations in the past.Jazzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10259337171636340867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133568317365346510.post-80008450415976440472012-08-20T12:04:54.400-07:002012-08-20T12:04:54.400-07:00They sound intriguing! It's wonderful because Watson gets a romantic subplot, which I love not only because I'm sweet on Watson but also because it makes the dynamic between them funnier, like you can almost sense Watson's playing up his romantic feelings just because it will DRIVE HOLMES NUTS when he reads it. rockinlibrarianhttp://rockinlibrarian.livejournal.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133568317365346510.post-85200679245298005752012-08-20T07:10:34.568-07:002012-08-20T07:10:34.568-07:00Both of these books sound interesting. I also like that there are little clues that big fans can pick up along the way. Thanks for sharing.
~JessDMShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04202502753961748992noreply@blogger.com
